Pre & Post Care for Carbon Peel

Cindi • November 9, 2021

Pre-Carbon Laser Peel

For the five days prior to your procedure avoid using on your face Retinoids, such as Retin-A, Vitamin C, Glycolic acids, and any type of strong cream that could interfere with your treatment. Avoid getting skin treatments at least two weeks prior to your session; these includes microdermabrasion and any type of professional or home exfoliation, Botox, Fillers, etc. Timing treatments is the clinic’s responsibility, as long as you do all your treatments at the same location, which is highly recommended.

Also, if you are taking antibiotics, make sure you have taken your last dose at least 7 days prior to your laser treatment.

Use Sun Protection

Wearing sun protection is extremely important whether you are seeking a Carbon Laser Peel treatment or not. You should always wear sun protection because it protects your skin from the harsh UVA and UVB rays of the sun. This includes wearing sunscreen, as well as a hat when going out in the sun.

Refrain from Smoking

Smokers need to be extra careful when considering laser treatments because it can affect their bodies’ ability to heal and achieve optimal results. Nicotine has been known to narrow the blood vessels in the skin, which prevents nutrients from reaching the outer layer of the skin.

Carbon Laser Peel Aftercare

After a treatment, the treated area of skin may feel a little warm afterward, and there may be some slight redness.  If the treatment was used to target pigmentation, the pigment may appear darker for awhile, and may feel like a slight sunburn for about an hour after the procedure. Other common side effects may include swelling of the skin, redness, and sensitivity. To reduce your chances of experiencing these side effects or to help them disappear, here are some tips for carbon laser peel aftercare.

Avoid Active Ingredients and Chemicals Before and After

After your Carbon Laser Peel appointment, the top thing you need to do is to avoid active ingredients in your skincare products and beauty routine. Avoid any products that contain alpha hydroxy acids, retinol, and glycolic acid for at least two weeks because these can irritate your skin.

Avoid Exfoliation

After a laser treatment, you should think of your skin as a fresh wound that needs to be treated with gentle care. You should avoid any products that contain strong fragrances and chemicals and stop your exfoliation for at least two weeks. You can use products with peptides, emollients, and SPF, and if you need to cleanse your skin, choose a milk cleanser or gentle moisturizing face wash.

Avoid Heavy Exercising

Your skin needs time to heal, and for your body to do that, it needs rest. Heavy exercising and sweating can irritate the delicate skin and slow down your ability to heal quickly. Take it easy—your skin will thank you for it!

Many conventional skincare products contain harmful chemicals that can disrupt hormones, increase cancer risk, and negatively impact overall health. Choosing a brand like Naturopathica, which prioritizes clean, natural, and science-backed ingredients, can help you avoid these risks while nourishing your skin. The Risks of Conventional Skincare 1. Endocrine Disruptors (Hormone Disruptors) Parabens (methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, etc.) Mimic estrogen, potentially leading to hormonal imbalances and breast cancer. Phthalates (commonly found in fragrances, lotions, and creams) Disrupt hormone production, affecting fertility and fetal development. Triclosan (found in antibacterial soaps and some toothpastes) Alters thyroid function and may contribute to antibiotic resistance. Oxybenzone (found in chemical sunscreens, lotions, and lip balms) Mimics estrogen, linked to reproductive harm and lower sperm count. Why Choose Naturopathica? Naturopathica is free from parabens, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances, making it a safe choice for those looking to protect their hormonal health. 2. Carcinogens (Cancer-Causing Chemicals) Certain synthetic skincare ingredients have been linked to increased cancer risk through prolonged exposure. Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives (DMDM hydantoin, Diazolidinyl urea, Quaternium-15, etc.) Can release formaldehyde, a known human carcinogen. Coal tar dyes (often labeled as FD&C or D&C colors) Contain heavy metals linked to cancer and nervous system toxicity. Polyethylene Glycols (PEGs, commonly used in creams and lotions) Often contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, a known carcinogen. Ethanolamines (DEA, TEA, MEA, found in foaming cleansers and shampoos) Linked to liver and kidney cancer. Why Choose Naturopathica? Naturopathica avoids synthetic dyes, PEGs, and harmful preservatives. Instead, they use botanical extracts and clean, plant-based preservatives to protect your skin and overall well-being. 3. Skin Irritants and Toxins Many mainstream skincare products contain chemicals that cause inflammation, allergic reactions, and weaken the skin barrier. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) & Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) Strip skin of natural oils, leading to irritation and increased chemical absorption. Synthetic Fragrances (Parfum) Can contain hundreds of undisclosed chemicals, many of which are hormone disruptors and allergens. BHA & BHT (preservatives in moisturizers and lipsticks) Possible carcinogens linked to liver and kidney damage. Why Choose Naturopathica? Naturopathica uses pure essential oils and natural botanicals instead of synthetic fragrances, reducing the risk of irritation and hormone disruption. 4. Heavy Metals in Beauty Products Some conventional skincare and makeup products contain toxic heavy metals. Lead (found in lipsticks, eyeliners, and foundation) Known neurotoxin and carcinogen that can cause developmental delays. Mercury (found in some anti-aging creams and skin-lightening products) Toxic to the nervous system. Why Choose Naturopathica? Naturopathica follows strict purity and sourcing standards to ensure their products are free from heavy metals and toxic contaminants. The Naturopathica Difference: Clean, Effective, and Safe Skincare Unlike many conventional brands, Naturopathica combines holistic healing with science-backed formulations to deliver effective, skin-friendly solutions. Their products are: Free from parabens, phthalates, sulfates, and synthetic fragrances Made with organic, plant-based ingredients Clinically tested and formulated for skin health Eco-friendly and cruelty-free Switching to a clean skincare brand like Naturopathica means nourishing your skin without exposing yourself to harmful chemicals.
